Inside Tio’s Tacos and Centro de Frutas Naturales

Artist Martin Sanchez and his beautiful daughter Stephanie, who served as interpreter the day we visited.

Mr. Sanchez has been working on a future meeting center in the complex, modeled after his hometown village of Sahuayo, a town in Michoacan, Mexico. Each few feet he’s painted on the walls, representations of stores, shops and churches in his boyhood village: the plaza where he shined shoes, the water hole where he used to bathe and the bottles and bottle caps that were his toys.

All around the big banquet room are scenes from Martins childhood in Michoacan. The village shoe repair shop, the tacqueria, the liquor store, all are depicted on the walls of his restaurant.

The actual restaurant itself is covered inside and out in beautiful mosaics depicting sealife and oceanic themes.
